Effervescent Blue

Jo Dyer is an artist from Mulubinba – Newcastle. Her practice is multi-disciplinary and process-driven, encompassing painting, experimental installation, assemblage and photographic documentation.

For Jo, art making is a relational act: a means through which notions of agency (self-expression) and communion (receptivity) can be enacted and reiterated. Through this philosophical and intimate approach Jo engages with her materials and objects as companions and collaborators: presences with whom an artwork’s outcome is playfully negotiated.

Through collaborative projects with other artists, and by exhibiting and sharing the documentation of her practice, Jo invites others to form their own unique relationship with the work.

Jo studied a Bachelor of Arts (Creative Arts) at the University of Newcastle which included a semester of study in La Rochelle, France. Since graduating in 2008 she has exhibited her work in group and solo exhibitions in Newcastle, Melbourne and Sydney, and has work held in private collections around Australia and overseas. She was a finalist in the 2013 Newcastle Emerging Art Prize and has recently completed a Master of Fine Art with Distinction from RMIT (2024).
